About the cover
Internationally known artists and mask makers Philip and Maria Annal of Winterbound Studio in Grand Isle, Maine, were inspired by the author's story to create this unique depiction of the traumatic brain injury caused by her horrific accident and eventual healing. The hourglass, which adorns the mask and which denotes the time needed for healing, is embellished with gems of malachite and quartz, ancient symbols of brain growth and intelligence. The work clearly conveys the contrast between the damaged self and one that has been lovingly rebuilt.
